Rebecca Ray Designs

A few weeks ago I went to the Atlanta Gift Show and spent the day roaming the halls of Americas Mart.  Meg and Pam met me there and we had a blast looking at booths and picking out new things.  One of my favorite new finds was Rebecca Ray Designs.  Her booth was so beautiful and filled with the coolest equestrian items.
All her items are made in the USA…

Their signature bags were what jumped out at me when I passed by…
These are the bracelets I amazing.

Also a nice assortment for Men…

Rebecca Ray Designs has a blog and a website..check it out.
My recap of the entire show is next…

The Summer Games

Super excited about the Olympics starting tonight.  I was in Newport during the last summer games and loved watching all the events out at night..all the bars had them on the screens.  My DVR is set for the opening ceremonies just in case I make last minute plans..but I will probably be making jewels and on my couch.  So happy it is Friday!
Have a great weekend!!!

The Starboard Sea

Since downloading the Kindle app on my iPad, I have been reading like crazy.  It is so great to always have a book on the go.  My next trip is in a few weeks so I am loading up on my reading material.  This book slipped past me in February when it came out, but looks so great.  It will be great to read sitting in my beach chair on Gooseberry Beach in August….

“A rich, quietly artful novel that is bound for deep water, with questions of beauty, power and spiritual navigation as its main concerns. The title refers not to the right side of a boat but to the right course through life, and the immense difficulty of finding and following it.”–Janet Maslin, The New York Times
A powerful first novel about life and death, friendship and love, as one young man must navigate the depths of his emotions.
JASON PROSPER grew up in the elite world of Manhattan penthouses, Maine summer estates, old-boy prep schools, and exclusive sailing clubs. A smart, athletic teenager, Jason maintains a healthy, humorous disdain for the trappings of affluence, preferring to spend afternoons sailing with Cal, his best friend and boarding-school roommate. When Cal commits suicide during their junior year at Kensington Prep, Jason is devastated by the loss and transfers to Bellingham Academy. There, he meets Aidan, a fellow student with her own troubled past. They embark on a tender, awkward, deeply emotional relationship.
When a major hurricane hits the New England coast, the destruction it causes brings with it another upheaval in Jason’s life, forcing him to make sense of a terrible secret that has been buried by the boys he considers his friends.
Set against the backdrop of the 1987 stock market collapse, The Starboard Sea is an examination of the abuses of class privilege, the mutability of sexual desire, the thrill and risk of competitive sailing, and the adult cost of teenage recklessness. It is a powerful and provocative novel about a young man finding his moral center, trying to forgive himself, and accepting the gift of love.

Too short…

What is going on these days that Mothers are letting their girls leave the house with shorts barely covering their private parts?  I used to think it was just in Miami since it is so hot..hence less clothing, but it is EVERYWHERE.  In the airport this past week, everywhere I looked there was another young girl in the tiniest short shorts and skirts alive.

This is the length of all the shorts on the Abercrombie website….
Pretty much the same for American Eagle…
and most on Urban Outfitters.  When you can see the pockets coming out the bottom.. I mean seriously??  I know this is a trend, but why would you want your child running around barely covered up???
They do not look good on everyone…

Even on Jersey Shore…

They don’t look good on most people unless you are Elle Macpherson..

Or Gwyneth…

Not to be a hypocrite..I wore super short skirts and dresses when I was younger, but I was a child of the 70’s!!!

Gold Jack Rogers have been on my feet now for so long, I couldn’t tell you when I started wearing them.  They are so comfortable and I think, go with everything.  The funniest story I have ever experienced about them was when I was visiting my adorable friend Corey in East Hampton a few years ago.  She, unbelievably, was the director of a very small private summer camp for some famous people’s children and had hired some of her friends to work with her. The only job she was not in charge of was the summer Chef, who was being hired by the Mother of the family she was working for.  There was a slight panic since this person would be staying in the rented house with Corey and her friends.  They got one look at her when she interviewed and with a sigh of relief, commented “she was wearing Jacks”…a huge thumbs up.  I thought this was so funny at the time, but could see what she meant.

Usually, I can get a year out of my pair of my staple gold Jack Rogers but I have used my last pair so much that they now get mixed up with the pair before and I can’t tell which one is which anymore.  I need a new pair of gold, but I have been on the lookout for this pair of all black ones.  I have only seen them once in person and am now obsessed with obtaining these…they are on the Jack Rogers website thankfully.
Black Label Navaho Sandal $138

The new line of Bahamas Jelly Jacks is so cute as well.  They are priced at $68 and also come in all black and all white.  Even though summer is half over, I might still have to get a pair of these.  Perfect for the pool, and since I live in Miami, my “summer” lasts way past Labor Day.

Check out for more info.

Road Trip

Last pickup time was 7:00 AM on Thursday.  So scared I would oversleep, I woke up at 5 and ended up reading my book on my iPad until it was time to get moving.  We breezed out of Miami and headed up to Amelia Island.  My parents were out of town but we were spending the night there on the way to North Carolina.  I was snapping pictures along the way of my two little friends.  It has been a while since I had been on a trip with little ones in the car.  You really need two people, one to drive and the other to keep them entertained and happy (and to pick up falling objects from car seats).

Ashley was cracking us up the whole way…

We got to my parents in the afternoon and hung out.

The girls got to meet my sweet Millie…

Friday morning, we loaded up again and headed North.  We were making such good time and right before we hit North Carolina, we stopped at a fabric store.  The girls were so happy to get out of the car…Elizabeth found a little play house to sit in while we shopped.

We got to Statesville Friday evening and had a big, fun dinner.  The next day, we went to check out the new chickens and the girls went horesback riding.  It is so fun to be at the farm and see how it all works.
Holt was showing the girls all the chickens…

Uncle Robb taking the girls through the “secret passage”
while Elizabeth and Chase were very busy in the kitchen…
Saturday, we went out with Heather and Ashley for a super fun girls dinner.
Sunday, we went to a big lunch and hung out the rest of the time…

I was so sad to get on my plane Monday morning back to reality.  Definitely one of the more fun road trips I have been on in a long time!

After my promising to be a better blogger and posting more regularly, I have disappeared for the last 2 weeks!!!  I have so much to post but am having a hard time getting it all together.  Last week’s road trip was super fun and I went on a quick trip to Atlanta this past Saturday for the gift show.  So, lots of fun posts to come.

One thing I just saw in person at the Gap (no surprise) that I LOVED was this bag.  It is so cute and all I could think of was how awesome it would be with a big fat navy monogram at the top.  This might have to become mine, even though I sell tote bags and even ordered more at the show this past weekend.  The orange and navy is so cute…and $44.95

Saturday, I found some new stationery vendors as great since so many of mine have gone out of business!!!!  Will post tomorrow…I promise!

7.11 Free Slurpees Today

Today, July 11 (7-11) is free Slurpee day.  This news would have made me so happy as a child.  My Grandparents in Virginia lived in a townhouse complex that backed up to a 7-11 with a back entrance over a small creek.  We used to dig for loose change and race there for candy.  This picture cracks me up, I am the tiny one in the middle.  My cousins Kaaren and Gretchen on the ends..Roxanne to my right, Bobby to my left and my brother in the blue pants.  We used to have so much fun staying there in the summer, always at one pool or another, many trips to the beach, Kings Dominion and almost daily trips for candy at our beloved 7-11.
and in related news….
Yesterday was 6 weeks no carbs or sugar!

Independence Day and Katie Holmes

Not to make light of our country’s 236th birthday, but this made me laugh so hard.  I have not commented on the Katie/Tom breakup yet but I think we haven’t really scratched the surface.  The rumors just won’t go away about how Katie auditioned for the role of Tom’s wife 6 years ago and she was the only actress that was up for the challenge.  I have always had a hard time believing this because I still see Katie Holmes as Joey Potter from Dawson’s Creek.  Having watched that series.and I mean every episode probably 4 times, I have a hard time thinking that someone so smart from Ohio, with a seriously normal family would get herself involved with such a scam.
I mean, who wouldn’t want to be Mrs. Tom Cruise and all that it could offer you.  He has always been one of my favorite actors and seemingly such an amazing person.  The Scientology part is a HUGE mystery to me.  It just seems so bizarre, but in interviews all along the way, Tom credits Scientology with saving his life.  When he became an actor, he was dyslexic and had to have help memorizing all his lines since he could not read.  After becoming a Scientologist, he became a true believer (in what I am still not sure) and puts his all behind it.  The YouTube video of him talking about would scare anyone, but to each his own.  I also read an article this morning that tried to explain that since Tom is so involved with Scientology and it’s highest members, they naturally would be involved with him finding his new wife, hence the “audition”.  Who knows…I am just entertained by the whole thing.

In the last few months, my friend Brett has been enjoying besting me with the latest Hollywood gossip, texting me all the latest big headlines.  He is the one who broke the Whitney Houston story to me while I was at dinner and sure enough as soon as I gasped out loud and spilled the news, all the girls at the table reached for their phones to confirm the horror.  This Katie/Tom story was delightfully told to me by BFF Denie, who I could tell did not believe that I already did not know.  Well, my phone is near me at all times, but it is not physically attached to my hand.  I was surprised to hear the news for sure, but reading all the details online as they unfold is making for a great story.  The building that she and Suri moved into is where a friend of mine used to live, it is so nice and has a Whole Foods on the bottom floor.  There will be plenty of Katie/Suri sightings there this morning.

I would just like to see the old Joey/Katie back in action.  She has barely uttered a word in public since hooking up with Tom.  If you watched Dawson’s Creek, then you know the girl can talk and talk and talk.  The vocabulary on that show was mind boggling and the endless chatter back and forth never seemed to stop. I, for one, am all for the reunion show that Tom reportedly but the brakes on. Bring it on.  I can already confirm two Miami viewers in Amy and I.  A bonus would be seeing where she and Pacey are now after so satisfyingly ending up together on the show’s finale with Dawson acting like the tool he was in Los Angeles trying to be Steven Spielberg.
So, for now..that is all I have to say about the Katie/Tom/Suri mess.  I can’t imagine what other bombshells are going to surface about this story…there is bound to be much more revealed in the coming days.
Happy 4th of July!!!

5 Weeks…

So today is 5 weeks without carbs and sugar.  Five weeks without a bagel in the morning, sandwich at lunch and/or normal dinners.  I am doing good and have mastered this big change.  Gone are the days of sneaking down to our VP’s office for bite size candy know the kind that are just small enough to not really count…even if you eat three of them?  Then there are the delicious oatmeal raisin cookies at the cafeteria that I love…and am lucky enough to have friends there that drop off extras in the afternoon to us…no more.  Einstein’s bagels…the people there are probably wondering what happened to me.  Seriously, I am addicted to the pretzel bagel with light cream cheese, not to mention the perfect fountain diet coke.

No carbs and no sugar is not easy but there are so many things you can eat, that you just have to be creative.      I have been cooking so much, seriously spending more time in my kitchen than I ever have.  And…cooking in my not-so-new kitchen is motivating me to keep going thinking of how nice it will be to be to have a new kitchen.  So, it’s eggs, chicken, bacon and salad for a while..maybe soon some good-for-you carbs like half a sweet potato or chick peas..that sounds so fun.

My next challenge is to drop the Diet Coke.  I can’t believe I actually just typed that here but this whole thing would go a lot smoother without the soda.  I will attempt to switch over to iced tea shortly, I am just preparing myself mentally.  My road trip to North Carolina this week will be a tester of sorts, to see just how much willpower I really have.
