Shopping Finds August Edition

Not quite ready for summer to end…I am still shopping summer colors and finding all sorts of good things.  On my recent trip to Newport, I found the cutest things..I have mixed some of them in with some online finds.  Where I live, pink is always in fashion (so are white jeans, thank goodness!)
Barbara Gerwit Vintage Collection Dress on sale at C. Orrico for $81.  Comes in a few different patterns.  She uses vintage Lilly fabrics to make these cute cotton dresses.  I got a pink one from Angela Moore and am in love.
J. Crew Canvas Overnight Bag $36.50
Pink and Nude ballet flats from Snappy Turtle $70
J. Crew Colorblock Sweater $69.99
Gap Pink Slim Cropped Pants $49.95
I am into the pink pants after seeing so many pictures pop up on Pinterest lately with them…
I am thinking pink!

Newport on Daily Candy

A Rhode’s Scholarship
DailyCandy goes to Newport
Newport, Rhode Island. Home to salty seamen, ghosts of American dynasties past, and one helluva preppy party scene. Pack your Sperry Top-Siders, because this boat is about to get rocking.
Get Inn Step
Downtown Newport is dotted with peachy bed-and-breakfasts.
However, we prefer to stay posh at The Chanler
Request a villa (because no vacation should be without a private hot tub).
Quick tip: Parking around town is impossible. Allow for extra time or rent a bike.

Fork in the Rhode
Forget the Astors.
The richest residents of Newport are the croque monsieurs from Rosemary and Thyme Boulangerie & Cafe.
If you don’t order fresh baguette sandwiches for later, hit up Flo’s Clam Shack, just off Easton’s beach.
Even on clear days, the waterfront patio at The Black Pearl is dark and stormy (in the best way).
After the sun sinks, head to Perro Salado for spicy cucumber margaritas by the pitcher, guac, and chili-dusted scallops.
For market-fresh fare, book a table at Tallulah on Thames (the restaurant also runs a taco cart; follow @tallulahstacos on Twitter for locations).
Sporty Spice
Let your yuppie flag fly on the lawns of the International Tennis Hall of Fame
and during a private lesson from Sail Newport. Divot stomping at the weekly Newport International Polo Series game and a deep-tissue rubdown at Hotel Viking’s SpaTerre are less taxing if you’re not looking to break a sweat.
Sea the Sights
The town’s famed Cliff Walk is like a stroll through a Sotheby’s catalog. Tour Rosecliff (a.k.a. the mansion where 1974’s The Great Gatsby was filmed) for a closer look at Gilded Age opulence.
Get plenty to tweet about during a photography workshop at the Norman Bird Sanctuary.

Shop along Thames and Spring Streets for kitschy trinkets, doodads made with shells, and hand-blown glass figurines (pop into Cold Fusion for gelato while you’re ambling).

Drink like a Sailor
After your Thames Street excursion, unwind and uncork with shared plates, cheese, and plenty of vino at Fluke wine bar.  Not as glitzy as the Manhattan club of the same name, The Boom Boom Room is still a fun place to shake your pearls.

Finish nights at the cafe-by-day, club-by-night joint The Fifth Element.
We can’t wait to get on the Rhode again.

These are all great suggestions..there is so much to see in Newport!!!

Trunk Show in Rhode Island

One week since my last post…yikes.  I have been trying to get to this blog for days but have been on the run.  I arrived in Rhode Island on Tuesday and went straight to my show to set up.  The setting is at the most beautiful beach club right on the ocean.  The decor is old school fancy beach fun.  There has been super cute girls shopping every day..hoping for more today-the last day.  If you are in the area, let me can come shop!

I am next to Queen fun.
I am dying for one of these bracelets from my neighbor on the other side…
This is one of the rooms filled with vendors…
There is a great mix of items for sale…
Cute girls from
This is the view from the back of the club..I have been hearing the surf all day is heavenly.
More pics to come..I am on borrowed computers. 🙂

Americas Mart

A few weeks ago (not sure where the time went), I went to Atlanta to the gift show. Meg and Pam met me there and we roamed the halls of Americas Mart, looking for new and fun things.  There were tons and I lucked out in finding just about everything I was looking for.  Here are some sneak peeks…

A line of totes that were so cute..

the Wimberly booth…like falling in the rabbit hole.  I ordered a ton of cuffs...

This stationery line is going to be a favorite…Ann Page.  Chock full of of the cutest notepads and paper products at the best prices.  So excited to get this…

Late in the afternoon, we were offered some margaritas, which we gladly tasted.
La Vie en Parisienne..always good for some new jewels to add to the mix…

and tons of notepads…

and much more to come.  Things are trickling in and by the time school starts, I will be fully stocked with all my new goodies.  I am seriously considering going in January and splitting a booth with my friend Kim of Queen Bea Studio.  So much time has passed since I was there with a booth and I think it is time to try again.  Will keep you posted!

I avoided all social media yesterday so I could watch the gymnastics and swimming last night in real time without knowing who won beforehand.  I shushed several people along the way who were ready to babble on about who got the gold and wondered..why does everyone want to spoil the fun????  Last night’s nail bighter women’s all around was so unbelievable and I was so excited to sit and watch it when I opened my computer to read an email and Facebook popped up. A well-known blogger who has a lifestyle/home accessories website posted the above picture before it even aired.  She was immediately barraged with complaints from people.I just un-liked her page and will never go back.

Why people…why????

So, beyond the annoyance of the spoiler, I loved watching that event.  Gabby Douglas is so adorable and her smile is infectious.  The swimming was super fun to watch..very happy for Michael Phelps and not too bad from super cute Ryan Lochte.  All this excitement was during a crazy search for my blackberry, which is still missing and I am now realizing that I cannot function without it.  Beyond being my phone, it is my alarm clock, information source, camera and all around safety net.  The battery was low when I last had it in my hand, so I couldn’t hear it ring to find it.  I am praying that it is tucked in the couch and will appear tonight. Wish me luck!!!

Newport in August…

So 2 weeks left before I head up North to Newport.  I can’t wait to get out of here and the heat.  I am going for a trunk show in Narragansett at the Dunes Club called Christmas in August.  Super excited and have been making new jewels like crazy getting ready for it.  If you are in the area and would like to come, let me know so I can get you tickets.  The info is below…

I was feeling like a fraud for writing a blog called Summer In Newport, so I am relieved to finally have booked a trip.  There are so many things I want to do while I am excited!
