2016 Academy Awards

I live to see the Academy Awards and absorb all the amazing fashion.  This year was half disappointing and half very rewarding. Since there are so many awards shows these days in a concentrated time frame, it is frustrating to see actresses wearing not their best choice to the biggest one of them all.  Nevertheless, there were some stand outs…

Naomi Watts looked A M A Z I N G in Armani Prive.  I love the dress, her hair and her jewels–so elegant.  She looks like a true movie star.

Olivia Munn in Stella McCartney

Sofia Vergara in Marchesa..she is meant to be on the Red Carpet.

Emily Blunt pretty in pink with her baby bump in Prada

Jennifer Garner dressed to kill in Atelier Versace

Cate Blanchett in Armani Prive

Saoirse Ronan in Calvin Klein Collection

Jennifer Lawrence in Christian Dior

Julianne Moore in Chanel Haute Couture

Charlize Theron in Christian Dior

Rooney Mara in Givenchy Haute Couture

Brie Larson in Gucci

Margot Robbie in Tom Ford

Reese Witherspoon in Oscar de la Renta

and a close up of her Tiffany jewels..

Some favorite moments…

Kate and Leo on the Red Carpet.

I don’t love Kate’s dress but I die over them walking the Red Carpet together.

and then the 6th time was a charm for Leo.  So happy that he finally won.  His speech was so great and I loved the end when he said “I don’t take this night for granted”.

And then the Vanity Fair Oscar Party…

Elizabeth Banks in Ralph & Russo

Tory Burch in Tory Burch

Carey Lowell

Serena Gomez in Louis Vuitton

Leo and Chris Rock

Jennifer Garner and her Alias dad Victor Garber

Lovebirds Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton

Jennifer Flavin and Sylvester Stallone-my heart broke for him

Lynn Wyatt and Georgina Chapman

So many fun pictures..I might add more later.

Happy Leap Year Day!

Leo

Academy Awards weekend is finally here.  I cant’ wait for Sunday night, one of my favorites of the year.  There are so many people I am hoping to win but no one more than Leonardo DiCaprio.  He has been so deserving for so many years (in my opinion), that it is time to award him for his amazing work.  He has won many Golden Globes but not an Oscar. I thought a timeline would be appropriate..

Did you know that one of Leo’s first roles was as Mason Capwell on Santa Barbara?  BFF Denie and I raced home from school every day to watch that show…

Next stop, Growing Pains..

 This Boy’s Life…

What’s Eating Gilbert Grape..

Basketball Diaries…

Romeo + Juliet..
and then Titanic..and every girl in the world fell in love with him…

 The Beach..
Catch Me if You Can…
Gangs of New York…
and then The Aviator.  This is the film that should have garnered Leo his first Academy Award.  He was unbelievable playing Howard Hughes.  He lost to Jamie Foxx playing Ray Charles.

One of my personal favorites, The Departed…
Blood Diamond…

 Shutter Island…
Revolutionary Road..teaming back up with Kate Winslet…

 Inception…
J. Edgar..
 D’Jango Unchained…
 Amazing in the Great Gatsby..

The Wolf of Wall Street..

and finally The Revenant!
I haven’t seen The Revenant yet, but it definitely looks Oscar-worthy.
My fingers are also crossed for Sylvester Stallone-always a favorite.
You know where I will be on Sunday,

The First Monday in May

Another behind the scenes video at Vogue has been in the works. Filmmaker Andrew Rossi followed Anna Wintour and her fellow event Chairs while they planned the 2015 Met Ball,  China: Through the Looking Glass.

Image result for first monday in may

Most mere mortals will never score an invite to this exclusive Ball, so this will be an entertaining treat.  Set to open the Tribeca Film Festival on April 13th, this in-depth film shows what it takes to pull off this huge event and tackles the question about whether fashion should really be considered art.
  The trailer is here:

Fringed

One Kings Lane has a feature about fringe and starts it off with this picture from Tory Burch’s home, so beautiful.  This amazing table with the bullion fringe.
Bullion fringe is a decorative trim made of twisted thread.  It is popular on sofas, chairs, tablecloths and ottomans. It is also used to make epaulettes, most often seen on soldiers uniforms.  The placement, color and width of the bullion fringe signified an officer’s rank.
Scarlett O’Hara’s famous dress in Gone With the Wind had bullion fringe in her head piece, a likely trim to the curtains at Tara.
Some do-it-your-selfers get their glue out and attach this pretty trim on themselves.  If you have the right tools, it is simple and bullion trim can be found at any trimmings store.
Designers love to use this thick trim, it pops up all the time…

Jenna Lyons…Style Crush

These days, I find myself going into J. Crew a lot.  There is one super close to me and I am constantly intrigued by this store.  Some of my favorite pieces are J. Crew and I wear J. Crew shoes almost every other day.  Jenna Lyons, the Creative Director is a fun one to watch. Her style is outrageous and I seriously love it.  Her tall, lanky body is the perfect mannequin for the clothes she designs and she definitely wears them well!

Trying to channel Jenna,

Birthday Weekend

I’m still recovering from my birthday weekend! Friday (my actual birthday) started off with breakfast with friends, a birthday party for my little friend Jordan and ended with a Birthday Happy Hour at Villagio.

My sweet needlepoint group got together and got me a gift certificate from the needlepoint store. So fun. A bunch of other friends got me a gift certificate to buy a new purse-super excited and grateful for all the love.
Saturday night we had a little reunion of old friends. Our local group can’t seem to get together so it took a friend coming in town to rally the troops. We meet in the Grove and it was super fun.
I rounded out the weekend with a fun Sunday brunch and then a slew of my favorite shows last night. All in all, an amazing weekend!
Older and wiser,

Happy Birthday to Me!

There are people who love their birthday and others who don’t really care. I am one of those who love their birthday.  This year I am meeting a bunch of friends for happy hour.  I am excited to see friends and celebrate.  This is kind of a big birthday but yikes…we don’t have to talk numbers lol.
I thought I would re post one of my favorite birthday posts from a few years ago…
Several years ago when BFF Cynthia was a reporter in West Palm Beach, she got herself invited to dinner with Lilly Pulitzer and a few friends. The dinner took place in February and Cynthia happened to have a birthday card in her purse that she was planning on sending to me. She told Lilly that she had a friend who LOVED Lilly Pulitzer and always talked about having Lilly bridesmaids dresses in her wedding…she asked Lilly to sign my card and she told Cynthia to leave it with her and she would send it off herself…

You cannot imagine the shock of opening this card, which Lilly had written to me and even added a little fabric swatch at the bottom! What a terrific surprise!! I have treasured this memento for a long time and had it tucked away somewhere safe..only I hid it too well and couldn’t remember where! Luckily, I found it this week just in time to share with all my Lilly loving friends.

So today is my birthday and while I am not expecting another Lilly birthday card, I do have very fun plans in the works and can’t wait to see all my friends! So, I will thank Cynthia again for thinking of me and Lilly for sending me quite possibly the best birthday card ever!!!!

Did all the bridesmaids talk jinx me?
Still single on my birthday,

Checking off my list…

Yesterday’s vacation day was such a nice way to round out my weekend.  I keep saying that I am needing friends to come sit on my couch while I work because it keeps me focused and I get so much done.  I had two takers yesterday and they descended on my bookshelves and forced me to start going through them and organize!  It is unbelievable how many of my vendors have gone out of business through the years.  Then, if I don’t order my own samples, I am stuck with tons of products with random names on them.

So, now all of that stuff is in bins, along with some other merchandise that I don’t want to sell anymore and I going to have a big sale at the end of the month.  This is great timing because all of the stuff I ordered at the Atlanta Gift show is starting to arrive and I need the space!
The cleaning up discussion also included my hallway closet, home to all pictures, paper and more paper.  I am determined to get those pictures in albums, even if they are not in perfect order.  I have more shelves in bookcases then in that closet.  Last week, I ordered my first Chatbooks.  The app stays on your phone and you order from there-this is great since most of my pictures are in my phone these days.  This Chatbook is a gift for someone but I can’t wait to see the quality when it arrives.  If it is good, then that might be a great solution going forward..making Chatbooks every so often instead of gearing up to make a real photo album with tons of pictures.  I am kind of missing the days of dropping off your film and picking up pictures!
