New Instagram

After going back and forth for weeks, I finally opened an Instagram account for Kristin Pearce Designs.  I have been constantly worried about over posting about my business on my regular Instagram account so now I can post about all the things I am currently selling and the people that want to see that content can follow me there.  If this experiment doesn’t work out..I can always go back-this is what I keep telling myself.

I have a crazy love affair with Instagram.  It is the first thing I look at on my phone when I wake up in the morning and catch myself looking at it many times throughout the day.  I find it so inspiring to see all the design accounts, fashion and of course, what my friends are up to. Not to mention all the celebrities I is such amazing access into people’s lives.

So, if you want to see what is going on in Kristin Pearce Designs, please follow my new instagram page:

The plan is to keep it up to date with all my new things and focusing on best sellers.

Listening in…

Have you ever had a conversation and then, coincidentally the subject of your chatter comes up in an ad on Instagram or Facebook?  This happens to me all the time and one of my co-workers insists that “they” are always listening via our smart phones.  Who is “they”? I asked and she had lots of ideas, some of which made sense but the whole thing seemed unlikely.
Fast forward many months and I started seeing this when I signed on to my Capital One app…
I thought it was funny because everyone calls me that and didn’t think too much beyond being amused.  When this subject came up again, Helen showed me her phone.  Her same Capital One app said this…
Her sister calls her Helen Helen Watermelon.  She is the only person that says that and is usually on speakerphone in conversation.  Coincidence?  It’s too much!
I did a quick google search and so much came up on this topic…
Google says that Facebook, Instagram and others use the microphone in your phone to listen to conversations.  You can adjust the settings on your phone under Privacy to disconnect these apps from using the microphone on your phone.  They do this for advertising purposes but it is a little creepy.
Watch what you say near your phone!

More Instagram Favs

Here is the second edition of my Instagram favorites..there are still so many more and I keep finding good ones every day.  Enjoy these…
Habitually Chic is a blog that chronicles the comings and goings of NYC interior designer Heather Clawson. She goes to fabulous events and travels the world.  She is getting ready to go to Paris for Fashion Week.
An obvious one to follow, especially if you enjoy the 5 x 5 prints they put on their feed from the Lilly print designers.  Also an easy way to see all the new Lilly wears coming to stores.
There is no one more funny/crazy than Jill Kargman.  Before starring in her hit Bravo show Odd Mom Out, she was an amazing author.  Her books are laugh out loud funny and so is this hilarious show.
Photographer Claiborne Swanson Frank takes pictures of all sorts of people, her feed is a mix of her photos of family and famous friends.
Longtime favorite artist Caitlin McGauley.  I LOVE her paintings and this feed shows what she is working on and what inspires her.
Another obvious feed for design junkies, the Veranda Magazine feed has beautiful pictures of all different types of design.
If you don’t live in Miami, you might not know about the gem that is Country French.  A charming little store in the middle of South Miami, you can find linens, candles, home accessories, china, furniture and much more all displayed in a way that makes you want to purchase the whole room-people sometimes do!  Sweet girls will help you make the best choices and wrap your purchases up so pretty, you will be proud to take something from here as a gift to anyone.
Another obvious feed for me.  Love seeing what Gwyneth Paltrow is up to.  I am also dying for her to post more pictures of her beautiful house.  She always just posts this gorgeous entryway.
If you have a hankering for pink and green, this feed is for you.  These sisters in Palm Beach get around and post awesome pics of their comings and goings.  They have a blog and an online shop
Last but certainly not least, my dear friend of over 25 years, Jamie has been perfecting her photographic eye and her feed filled with her beautiful family and her travels is so fun to see.  One of the most creative people I have ever know, you will be sure to learn a lot by adding her to your Instagram lineup.

Instagram Obsessed

So I am determined to blog every day in January to kick off my return to Summer in Newport.  When I opened this page, I took a peek at my blog roll on the right hand side and saw the title of many of my contemporaries’ farewell posts.  Most of them switched over to Instagram.  You can reach so many people with pictures and unlimited text, it is a natural social media progression.  I, myself, am obsessed with Instagram as well.

When someone says “down the rabbit hole”, I now know exactly what they meant.  I have spent hours and hours scouring through different feeds that lead to me to others and others and it is so fun.  There is so much amazing content on Instagram, you can find people to follow with any type of interest.  Mine is a mix of pop culture, fashion, home decor and friends.  It all equates to way too much time spent glued to my phone/iPad.

I will spread out in a few different blog posts my favorite feeds:
This delightful feed is chock full of daily, beautiful watercolors.

Carolyn is one of my dearest friends.  She is a photographer and specializes in iphonography.  She teaches online classes at The Define School.  Her current class is titled “The Unapologetic Artist.” Following her feed will give you an inside view of what a true artist’s life is like.  Amazing

Of course I love this feed because it is all about Gwyneth’s life.  She liberally posts intimate pictures of her children and her daily life..I cannot get enough!

This delightful feed contains daily pictures made entirely of flowers.  This ballerina is from a couple of weeks ago.  She is very creative and the result is fantastic.

I met Danielle a year ago at the Atlanta Gift Show, where she was signing copies of her coffee table book.  The book is about entertaining and it is fabulous just like her.  She is currently renovating a beautiful home in Atlanta and is chronicling the process on her Instagram feed.  She has true classic taste in everything, so this feed has been fun to follow.

The woman behind 25park is like a social media fairytale godmother to those in need.  In between tons of inspiring fashion and girl-power posts, she also solicits help from her viewers for people she finds out about that are in serious peril.  Her posts have prompted many small donations from me, I can’t help myself.  Her famous mantra is “if every one of my readers gave just $5, we would solve this problem.”  She is usually correct and has helped many families along the way.  One horrible stalker got her account suspended a few months ago and jewelry designer Jennifer Meyer came to her rescue and got her back online by contacting her friends who started Instagram.  It’s all who you know…

More later..there are tons!

Art on Instagram…August Wren

My current black hole is Instagram.  It used to be Facebook, then the blogs, Twitter and now Instagram.  It doesn’t take long to get sucked into the search page and find someones post that leads to another and then an hour has gone by.  One that I found not too long ago and has become a favorite is August Wren.  Artist Jennifer Orkin Lewis is behind the August Wren art, posting one sketch a day.  Each is better than the next.

Her sketchbook…

She has a website here where you can shop for prints and find out more about her.

Loving August Wren,

Catching up…

During my unintentional break from blogging, I had a lot going on.  Some things too fun not to share…first up- a special 4 year old birthday party that was so fun and over the top.  When we walked into the backyard under a beautiful balloon arch, the first thing you saw was the elephant giving rides to a bunch of smiling children.  It was so amazing.  I watched the elephant and all my friends riding it during the whole party and right at the end, my two BFFs got on, so I joined in.  We were all wearing dresses, so not so ladylike, but it made for a good pic. I loved this party!
The Year-End party for Beaux Arts.  I was in charge of this cute invitation..from Etsy.  We had so much fun and celebrated all the hard work we did this past year.  Very excited to be the 2013-2014 New Member Liaison, a job I have been lobbying to have for quite some time.  Meetings have already begun for next years Beaux Arts Ball, our first big fundraiser.
A month ago, I got the news that I had won a pretty big award at work.  This blogger is the Captain of the Year for 2012.  I had no idea I was even nominated, but I was chosen and the prizes were unbelievable.  Not only did I get a very nice plaque, but also a 7-day cruise for two on any of our brands, a week’s vacation for the cruise and a very generous gift card.  I was overwhelmed and very happy.  Still trying to figure out which cruise to take and who to take with me.  Very excited about the whole thing.  They just posted this at work last week on all the info screens, so I have been reliving the excitement all over again.

As mentioned in a previous post, I have become addicted to Instagram…

I like changing the shades on the pictures…partial to Mayfair and Hefe.

My next focus is the Atlanta Gift Show!
Booth #2716 in Boutique.
July 11 – July 16

Evolution of Social Media

Not too long ago, if asked, I would have sworn my dying allegiance to Facebook above all other social media outlets.  I do LOVE Facebook, don’t get me wrong, but the same people talking about the same things gets a little old, no?  Next came Twitter…how fun is Twitter?  I started following so many people that I was constantly up on all current events, breaking news and celebrity fluff alike.
I am not breaking up with Facebook or Twitter, but my new love is Instagram.  I have been cheating on my first two relationships with shiny new Instagram.  Since I only got my iPhone at Christmastime, I am relatively new to Instagram and all it has to offer.  When I have a spare second these days, that is the app I click first to see what is going on.  I chronicled my whole trip this past weekend on Instagram and linked it to Twitter…kind of like dating two guys at one time-having to be careful to link the right things the right way or it can be a big mess.
Did I ever tell you about Klout?  The magic Klout score that had me scrambling to increase it to 40 so I could gain access to a VIP lounge at a Fashions Night Out party in Bal Harbour?  I googled the heck out of Klout trying to see what, exactly boosts your score.  One thing is to follow less people than follow you on Twitter.  That was easy, I scrolled through the people I followed and deleted a ton of useless Tweeters.  I didn’t make the 40 needed to access that party, but now am comfortably in the 50s-not that anyone cares, including myself.
So, in addition to my promise to blog more consistently, I am letting it be known that if you want to know what is really going on in my world, follow me on Instagram.  It is so much fun.
